PROGRAM UPDATE

Last Updated: 12/17/25

Mental Health America Fredericksburg Region is currently working to restructure and rename the Senior Visitors program. Due to evolving needs of the community, the current ratio of volunteers to participants, and other factors, the current program needs updates.

At this time, we are not intaking new participants, as the current capacity cannot meet the needs of additional older adults. All current Senior Visitors volunteer and participant commitments will continue; those who are currently involved in the program will not need to change their participation in the program.

In full transparency, MHAfred would like to update you on some gaps we’ve discovered and our plans to address these concerns in the foreseeable future. The incoming changes are as follows:

  1. Eligibility Criteria: After conversations with people in our community, we’ve identified a disconnection between the needs in our community and the services that MHAfred can offer. Due to this, we are reevaluating our criteria for eligibility to fully understand the needs of each and every individual referred to our program. Individuals will be assessed, and path of care/resources will be determined.
  2. Technology Assistance: In an effort to bridge the gap between technology and older adults, we plan to implement a program that provides older adults with tech assistance from volunteers. More details of this program will be announced at a later date.
  3. Older Adult Community Groups: We recognize our community’s need for In an effort to bridge the gap of loneliness and lack of community, we plan to host older adult community meetup sessions in approved areas, such a community clubhouse/room, public buildings, etc. More details of this program will be announced at a later date.

MHAfred is committed to providing our community with functional and effective resources to close gaps between need and resources for older adults in the Fredericksburg Region.

We appreciate your understanding during this transition. Thank you for your continued support of MHAfred.

NOTICE

At this time, we are not intaking new participants, as our current volunteer capacity cannot meet the needs of additional older adults. This page will be updated when our referral process has been revised and reinstated (see above for details).

The volunteer need for our older adult programs is constantly growing, especially as we adapt our program to fit the needs of our community, so we are still intaking new volunteers. The capacity of our volunteers directly impacts the availability for new older adult clients; therefore, we encourage interested individuals to sign up for our volunteer positions.
