Juneteenth

June 19, 2025
Juneteenth commemorates the effective end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. General Gordon Granger read General Orders No. 3, declaring that all enslaved people in Texas were free. Juneteenth is considered the longest running African American holiday and officially became a federal holiday in 2021. Freedom isn’t just a moment in history; it’s a continued journey toward equity, dignity, and wellbeing.

MHAfred office is closed in observance of Juneteenth.
