With overwhelming gratitude and great joy, we thank every person who made the 10th Annual Walk for Mental Wellness such a huge success!

Together we raised over $40,000!

Many miracles happened on Saturday! It stopped raining!! Hooray! We stayed dry and had so much fun.

For me, the real miracle is the way the Fredericksburg community cares about one another and comes together to improve lives.

Mental Health America of Fredericksburg has been around for over 60 years and has done so much to establish wonderful programs to address the mental health needs of this community. Our mission is to improve the lives of people in regard to their mental health and well-being through education, support and advocacy. It is through the support and generosity of this community that we are able to “Change Minds” and “Change Lives.”

Here’s how:

The MHAF Help Line – we maintain an extensive list of area mental health providers and their specialties and people call us up and ask, “Who can I turn to for help?”

We serve over 100 seniors in our Senior Visitors program – trained volunteers meet with lonely, isolated seniors for an hour a week to provide companionship.

We provide suicide prevention education to local teens and teach them how to identify the signs and symptoms of depression and suicide ideation in themselves and others – and more importantly –

what to do about it – through a simple acronym “ACT” Acknowledge, Care and Tell.

We have support groups – Mental Wellness and Teen Depression.

We provide advocacy by partnering with other organizations to address mental health issues and keeping our community informed.

Because of the generosity of our sponsors, donors, walkers and volunteers – we are able to fulfill our mission of “Changing Minds and Changing Lives”.

On behalf of the MHAF Board of Directors, Staff, and the people we serve, I want to extend our heartfelt appreciation for the generosity of this community and say, “Thank you!”

With sincere gratitude,
Rita Girard
