THE SENIOR VISITORS PROGRAM

The Senior Visitors Program is a supportive service program of Mental Health America of Fredericksburg that promotes independence, dignity and healthy living for older adults in their own home environment. The program matches isolated homebound seniors with trained volunteers who provide a friendly visit on a weekly basis. There is no cost for this program to the client and the ongoing relationship can make the Senior Visitors Program an especially meaningful and satisfying experience for the volunteer while it fills a void in the life of an elderly person in our community. The Senior Visitors Program is actively seeking senior client referrals and volunteers to serve as visitors. For more information please contact the Senior Visitors Program using the Contact Us Link below.

A STORY FROM THE SENIOR VISITORS PROGRAM

Tom is 92 years old and lives alone. He used to pilot small planes and loves to drive to Shannon Airport to watch the aircraft take flight. But he can't drive anymore. He had a stroke and lost his license. His fondest dream is to see the planes fly one more time. Tom's neighbor heard about the Senior Visitors Program and referred him. A volunteer visits weekly, and often you can find them eating a sandwich together and watching the planes at Shannon take off and land. His special friend has provided that lifeline to a man who was drowning in hopelessness and despair.
